Any rough idea how much are the semi slicks in the different sizes?

Toyo R888 - 235 / 255 = 235/17" @ 300 per tyre, 245/17" @ 320 per tyre, 255/17" @ 340 per tyre..

Re55s - 235 / 255 = i bought 235/17"s @ 360 per tyre...

A050 - 235 / 255 = 255/17" @ 475 per tyre

Silverstone Semi slicks - 235 / 255 = 235 / 17" @ 300 per tyre...

Any body has rough estimates for 255 profiles? I was quoted 400+ per tyre for RE55S in 255 profile.

Pls contribute ur feedback for the tyres and prices

just made an enquiry today and was quoted $320 per pc for 245/40/17 r888 which sits very nicely on 9" rim. 255/40/17 is $20 more and 235 $20 less per pc if i m not wrong. but for 18" is another different price bracket already.

no doubt re55s is very good but the wear rate is too fast. my friend use re55 in the front and r888 in the rear and now he just replaced the re55. the rear r888 still has lots of meat left and thats for mostly road use and seen only one sepang trackday only.

i got a quote from spark. they quoted me 1.9k for A050 17 inch in 255 profile! thats 475 per tyre... 340 for 255 R888 sounds better...

Re55s does set whicked lap times though.. but A050 is supposed to be better...

Where did u get that quote for the R888s?

H tyre quoted me 345 per tyre for R888, 255/40/17...

Also i got msged from a regular trackie that if u compare R888 to RE55S, apart from the wear rate, grip levels in the R888 is crap. any feedback on this from ppl who have tried both?

Hi lefthandpath, did your friend consider that the wear rate of front is much higher than rear, maybe 2F or 3 F : 1 R

For track use (inclusive of FR rotation, some of us found 55s could do 4-5 trackdays), no road usage

Ichimaru, you may also want to find out and consider which are known to have harder walls

With those softer wall tires, the car tends to feel nervous on high speed corners, and high speed transitions (ie SIC 5 to 6). Though its not usually my preferred route, but one way to counter this, is to pump more air into the tires.

Almost all the time, semi slicks are actually wider than their street couterparts, and their width tends to differ brand to brands. So perhaps on a 9j rims which normally uses 265s street tires, you will find this same set of rims will fit 255 888s nicely, but uses only 245 RE55s.

The best way out of this i believe, is to get from the manufacturer the recommended width to use according to the tire model.

Cheers

he did rotation before for his tyres. For me personally I tried both, re55s definitely have stiffer side walls and it's definitely better than r888.

For driver like me whose lines are all messed up have not much problem going thru all the corners in sepang. I remember when I changed to r888 I spun out quite often. But thread wear for r888 is definitely more lasting.

thks for the input buddy... yeah definitely lookin more at RE55S since it serves better on the track, not lookin at any daily usage... but A050 is new blood... and... i'll wait for ur review soon yes? hehehe

Mean while any more ppl with comments to add in would b good though. maybe should start an official tyre wear rate and prices thread. lol

i tried both r888 n a050 but on rx8 not evo..
a050 can shed 3secs more at SIC n have much better grip..
but as i used them for street as well so lifespan is only 3mths :( :(
never try before re55 cos dun tink have stocks for 18" anymore (maybe others got lobang)

Protege,

Thinking of getting a set of full slicks for the track or at least semi slicks with a spare set of wheels. We have a guy that stores the wheels and tires for us and installs it for us at Sepang at each track day. Do you have a recommendation for the Evo? For our Porsche's most have gone on Hoosiers for full slick. At my first track day using the Evo I was on full road going AD08's which were ok for a couple of laps but gave up quite quickly evven with constant reduction in tire pressure throughout the session.

Harold,

SEMI SLICKS - I usually go for Bridgestone or Yokohamas. I have used Bridgestone RE55s and was extremely happy with them, and some mates have given positive feedback about Yoko A050s. I spoke to Bridgestone about the new RE11s a month or 2 ago, and they do not seem to have a definite date of its arrival on our shores, or even sure if its ever coming at all.

Honestly, I'm not really adventurous when it comes to tires. I really hate to make a wrong choice, and then having to live with that wrong choice of tires for another 2-3 more trackdays, which translate to >1 year of suffering in my case.

For me, I just change my track set wheels (w semi slicks) in sg, then drive up to SIC & change back to my street set when I'm back.

I'm not into Full Slicks for my street car, but if I ever go into slicks for street cars (highly doubt at the moment) I will probably need your M'sian contact, how much does those folks charges btw ?

Did you consider adding tire pressure (vs reducing) on these street tires to make it work for you ? (35 - 40 PSI hot)
